Education Packs

Explore York worked in partnership with York Civic Trust to produce a series of education packs for KS2 students and teachers covering Life in a Victorian Workhouse, York in the First World War, York in the Second World War and Votes for Women. The aim of these packs is to highlight the impact of national and international events locally in the hope that the carefully prepared packs will help bring York’s rich history to life for school children through the use of original documents, photographs, and other information from the archives in York. The packs are available to freely download from the York Civic Trust website.

IPUP

Since 2016, Explore York Libraries and Archives have been delighted to partner with the University of York’s Institute of Public Understanding of the Past (IPUP) placement module. Over the course of their 10-week placements, students have had the opportunity to undertake detailed archival research on a specific topic. The subjects covered have included; York’s Sporting Heritage, the 1918 Influenza pandemic, Health and Social Care, Entertainment in York and the York Workhouse, among others. The students have created a variety of outputs on these subjects, from exhibitions to interactive digital displays, to short films and history themed story boxes for children. We look forward to continuing this partnership in 2022.
