Explore is part of a city-wide group looking at improving community transport in York which will be carrying out a survey for the next 2 months.
Community Transport is a way for people to get round who can’t afford or can’t use public transport or taxis due to disability or age. It takes people from door to door and has to be booked in advance. It includes services like Dial-a-Ride, York Wheels and a charity’s own transport like Age UK, the York MS Society or St Leonard’s Hospice. Community transport provides a means for people to get to places including shops, the hospital, organisation events and other appointments.
We know that many people are still missing out on going out because they can’t use public transport or can’t afford a taxi and at the moment community transport might not help. We are developing ideas for a new community transport project to help people get out more and are gathering ideas and information to help us identify what that project might be.
You can fill in a survey at any library in York until 14 December, or complete it online by 21 December, the links are below
