York Literature Festival presents a Historical Fiction Panel

York Literature Festival presents a Historical Fiction Panel with Sarah Maine, Pamela Hartshorne and Tim Murgatroyd
Three York-based writers discuss their work and the art of writing engaging historical fiction.
Sarah Maine was born in England but grew up partly in Canada, returning to the UK to study archaeology at university. She now works as a freelance researcher, lecturer and writer, combining an interest in the past with a love of travel and an outdoor life. Her latest novel Beyond the Wild River is a story of betrayal and murder set in the Scottish Borders and the wilderness of northern Canada.
Pamela Hartshorne has written three historical fiction novels set in York: Time’s Echo, The Memory of Midnight and The Edge of Dark. Her latest novel The Cursed Wife is a page-turning, psychological thriller set in Elizabethan London.
Tim Murgatroyd is the author of Taming Poison Dragons, Breaking Bamboo and The Mandate of Heaven (Myrmidon), all set in medieval China, as well as a haunting timeshift novel, The Nazi’s Daughter. Tim has also written three e-books of poems: Lullaby, Apples and Drunk.
All three authors will be reading from and discussing their latest work, as well as the process of writing historical fiction. They will be in discussion with historian Dr Angela Ranson from the York Literature Festival.
