Finding the Words with Mike Barlow, Jane Routh and Carole Bromley

This March during York Festival of Literature we are delighted to showcase poets published by Sheffield based poetry powerhouse The Poetry Business, described by Andrew Motion as “one of the most vital and vitalising literary organisations in the country”.
Mike Barlow won the 2006 National Poetry Competition and has published three full collections and a number of pamphlets. Living on the Difference (Smith|Doorstop 2004) won the Poetry Business Book and Pamphlet Competition and was shortlisted for the Jerwood Aldeburgh Prize for Best First Collection. Amicable Numbers (Templar 2008) was a Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Choice. His latest publication is the pamphlet Some Kind of Ghost (New Walk Editions 2018). Mike runs Wayleave Press a small pamphlet publishing venture and is also a visual artist
Jane Routh has published four collections and several poetry pamphlets. She won the Poetry Business Book and Pamphlet Competition with Circumnavigation, which was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection.Her second book, Teach Yourself Mapmaking, was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. The title poem of The Gift of Boats won the Academi Cardiff International Poetry Competition, and in 2011 she won the Strokestown International Poetry Competition. Jane contributes articles and reviews to several journals and has also published a prose book, Falling into Place, on wildlife, weather and work in the rural area where she lives and works in north Lancashire. Her new collection (November 2018) is Listening to the Night.
Carole Bromley lives in York and is the Poetry Society’s Stanza rep. She has three collections from Smith/Doorstop: A Guided Tour of the Ice House, The Stonegate Devil and a collection for children, Blast Off! Winner of a number of prizes including the Bridport Prize for Poetry, Carole also has poems in many anthologies, most recently A Poem for Every Night of the Year, The Emma Press Anthology of Love, The Valley Press Anthology of Yorkshire Poetry, The Hippocrates Prize Anthology, Poems for the NHS, Everything That Can Happen and One for the Road.Book tickets »
